Education involvement included serving on Shelton State Community College Foundation, CrimeStoppers, Adopt-a-School, UA Alumni Association, past president of local PTAs and PTA Council; member of the UA President's Community Advisory Council; member, UA Teacher Education Council; Governor's Committee on Instructional Improvement and Academic Excellence; Member of Kappa Delta Epsilon, education fraternity, Read Across America Day.

Past or Present Service on the Boards of Theatre Tuscaloosa, United Cerebral Palsy, Rotary Club, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts,  Adopt-a-School, Leadership Tuscaloosa; Alabama, Local, and Youth Work Force Development Boards.

Voted for smaller K-12 classes and better teacher training; the strongest high school graduation requirements in U.S.; tougher graduation exit exam; and more meaningful H.S. diploma.

Supported High School and Two Year College dual enrollment, easier transfer of Two Year College credits to Universities, and increased training for industry by community colleges.
